PP Woven vs BOPP Laminated Bags: How to Choose
Start with what the bag needs to do—not which finish looks better.
For straightforward logos and product information, a directly printed PP woven bag is worth considering. For detailed images, full-colour branding and a matte or glossy presentation, a BOPP laminated woven bag is worth evaluating. The decision should also account for product protection, filling, storage and order requirements. An attractive sample is only one part of the specification.
What is the difference?
A PP woven bag uses fabric made from woven polypropylene tapes. A BOPP laminated woven bag combines that woven base with an outer film of biaxially oriented polypropylene. The film can carry the printed design, while the woven fabric provides the structural base of the bag. Starlinger
BOPP is therefore not a completely unrelated plastic replacing the PP fabric. In this comparison, the key distinction is the bag’s construction: woven PP without a BOPP outer film versus woven PP laminated with that film.

Start with how your product will be sold
Bulk supply and straightforward identification
Consider a directly printed PP woven bag when the artwork mainly needs to communicate a product name, logo, weight and handling information. Standard woven bags can be supplied with custom printing; detailed photographic graphics are not a requirement for every application. Southern Packaging
For a bag delivered to a factory or distributor, begin by defining the filling, handling and identification requirements. Then decide whether a BOPP printed finish adds anything the customer actually needs.
Do not add a decorative layer simply because it looks more expensive.
Retail display and detailed branding
Consider BOPP lamination when the design includes product photography, detailed illustrations or a coordinated range of full-colour packs. BOPP laminated woven bags support photographic-quality printing and matte or glossy finishes. Palmetto Industries
For example, a branded rice pack displayed in a shop may justify a different print specification from a bag used mainly for bulk delivery.
Send the artwork—or a reference image—before settling on the construction. Ask to review the proposed printing method, colour requirements and finish together, rather than approving them as separate decisions.
These are starting points, not a rule that industrial products must use plain bags or retail products must use BOPP.
Check protection separately from appearance
A coated or laminated surface can improve moisture resistance compared with uncoated woven fabric. However, the bag’s required protection must be matched to the product and its storage conditions—not assumed from the word “laminated.” Southern Packaging
For moisture-sensitive products or fine powders, ask the supplier to review the complete construction: outer material, any inner liner, seams, openings and final closure. Request evidence appropriate to the finished bag and intended use rather than relying on a film description.
Also describe how the bags will be filled and stacked. BOPP bag designs can include features such as micro-perforations for airflow and anti-skid treatments for stacking; these should be discussed as specification choices, not assumed to be standard. Halsted Bag
For outdoor storage, state the expected exposure to sunlight and the intended storage period. UV inhibitors are a separate feature offered in woven-bag specifications, so request confirmation of the UV requirements rather than treating BOPP lamination as proof of outdoor suitability. For food or feed packaging, include the intended use and destination-market requirements in the enquiry from the outset.
Compare complete quotations, not just bag prices
BOPP laminated construction involves producing the printed film and bonding it to the woven fabric. Those production steps should be considered when reviewing the quotation and approval process. Starlinger
Ask each supplier to quote against the same product requirements and identify:
